Sterling Prince's Spring Success
The old campaigner Sterling Prince is back on track for owner Max Armstrong with a 3rd placing for $20,000 in the Mudgeway Gr 1 race on Aug 29, followed up two weeks later by a 3rd placing for another $20,000 in the Windsor Park Plate Gr 1 race and finished a commendable 6th in the big one … the Kelt Capital Stakes Gr 1 for another $12,000 on Oct 3. Sterling Prince was the most consistent performer over the three races and it augers well for his performance in the near future.
After the Kelt, Sterling Prince was still nominated for the Melbourne Cup in November so expectations are high for this son of Colombia.
Sterling Prince (6g Sterling Princess by One Pound Sterling) had a first up 6th in the Waikato RC Foxbridge P. Gr.3 on 15 August. It was just the warmup according to Max who is really pleased the way the horse has matured over the autumn/winter. Before the spring racing, Sterling Prince hadalready placed in 6 Group races including 2nd in the BOP RC Japan NZ International Trophy Gr2, 2nd in the ARC Easter H. Gr 1 and 3rd in the CJC Coupland’s Bakeries Mile Gr 2.
It is only a matter of time before he cracks the big one.
Sisters to be served by Colombia
Meanwhile back at Longspring Stud, two half sisters to Sterling Prince (also owned by Max Armstrong) are visiting Colombia – one for the second time. Golden Princess is by Kashani and has already produced the incredibly talented mare Mercury Angel who has now had 4 wins from 13 starts and winnings of over $22,515. Armstrong leased the mare Golden Princess to his friend Mrs J Jules who was trying to breed her first race horse. Not a bad record so far!
The other sister to visit Colombia is My Wee Princess who is by Wallenda. Both sisters are tall grey mares with a lot of class so will cross well with Colombia.
