Jedi Warrior wins Norwood Gold Cup
Friday, March 20, 2009

Jedi Warrior (Wishing Well – Distance LS by Distelfink) joined the lineup of previous Longspring connections who have all won the prestigious Norwood Gold Cup at the Horse of the Year Show in Hastings in March 2009.

Previous winners included NRM Falcon LS (Distelfink – Quiver by Five Knights) with Catriona McLeod; Duty Free LS (Distelfink – Juenette by Headland II) with Maurice Beatson and Super Moth LS (Distelfink – The Flying Jug by Copsale) with John Cottle.

Jedi Warrior was one of 38 horses to start in the class including 3 of the Australian riders.  In the end, it was down to a battle between Australian rider Chris Chugg who went clear with his beautiful stallion Vivant in a time of 37.39. With the time to beat clearly in mind, Maurice went for it and pulled up in a time of 37.35 much to the applause of the crowd watching.

Jedi Warrior is the first foal out of the Longspring bred mare Distance LS (Distelfink – Corticcia by Scotch Dewar) who was originally sold to Philip Steiner as a 5 year old. He jumped her for a bit before she sold to Oliver Edgecumbe and then went to Maurice Beatson as a broodmare.

Jedi Warrior has had a very successful showjumping career to date – he won the 7 Year Old Series in 2006-7.

Following along in his footsteps are two full brothers – Once a Warrior who was 2nd in the Cushionride 7 Year old Series this year and 4th in the 6 Year Series the year before.

Winter Warrior is yet another brother who was 2nd in the Mitavite 6 Year Old Series this year and  4th in the 5 Year Old Series the year before.

And there are more – Schimmel Warrior is a late starter in the 5 Year Old Series this year but watch for him next year.
