Cottle donates SUPER MOTH Trophy for Young Rider at HOY Show

From the Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Program 2009

John Cottle and his wife Jackie have donated a new Junior Rider of the Year Trophy to the show. The trophy, named after Cottle’s fantastic horse Super Moth, will be accompanied by a medal for the winning rider to keep.

Cottle and Super Moth, who died in 2001 and was considered one of the sport’s most brilliant New Zealand bred horses, dominated the New Zealand showjumping scene for several years winning the Olympic Cup in 1998.

“He was such a character, “ remembers Cottle. “I have a lot of fond memories of him.”

For Cottle, the Super Moth Trophy represents the future of the sport and he is hopeful the junior title class will, in years to come, become a major class of the show.

He’s a big believer in getting New Zealand’s young riders on horses well before they are 17, as is done in other parts of the world.

Super Moth was bred by Longspring Stud by Distelfink out of The Flying Jug by Copsale. The stud stands Tiger Moth LS who is out of a full sister to Super Moth and have another 3 mares from the same line breeding at the stud.

See the stallions section for Tiger Moth LS and under horses for sale is DEVOLUTION LS who is out of a full sister to Tiger Moth.
