Syenz Equine Reproduction

In line with our own breeding using international semen over Longspring mares, we are setting up a professional facility to collect and freeze semen from sport horse stallions, import top bloodlines and provide a specialised breeding centre.

Victoria Vallance set up Syenz Equine Reproduction Services in 2005 in association with her parents on Longspring Stud in the Wairarapa. Victoria lectured in equine reproduction for the Agriculture students at Massey University for 3 years so is well versed in all things related to breeding horses. Her company Syenz is a complete equine reproduction service and can customize solutions for any breeders whether it is a problem mare, training a stallion to collect, freezing stallion semen or setting up for transported semen.

Longspring has 35 or so mares producing 20 foals a year – 26 of these mares are by their champion sire Distelfink or out of his daughters. The majority of the stud work is now being done by Victoria using the new breeding technologies. We have had great success with the frozen semen and see that as being a major part of the breeding program in future.”

Frozen equine semen

One of Syenz’s most popular services is that of freezing semen from NZ based stallions. Last year, Syenz has frozen semen from stallions for Maurice Beatson, Graeme Hart, Shane Dugan, Malissa Landreth and of course Longspring.

Syenz has secured the rights to market semen from top Dutch Warmblood stud Stal de Wiemselbach. All stallions are competed in showjumping so their reputations are growing all the time. A number of these stallions (Numero Uno and Ustinov) have also been classified for the Hanoverian breeding program so breeders in NZ looking for more jumping blood under the Hanoverian banner can look at this lineup of talent!

The prices are quite competitive ranging from $1800 to $4000 and include a Free Return Service. Full details of the stallions are on both the www.syenz.com and the www.longspring.co.nz websites. You can also request a DVD of video footage of the stallions jumping which is amazing to see! Syenz will take mares at the stud for insemination or can send the semen to an appropriate vet of the mare owners choice in NZ.

Included in the Wiemselback lineup is a mixture of established stallions and up and coming younger stallions. Numero Uno, a showjumping legend with European Champion Marco Jutscher and now one of the leading sires in the word; Lupicor who is in the top 1% of the German Breeding Indexes and is already the sire of 2006 KWPN stallion champion L’Esprit; Ustinov was KWPN Stallion Champion 2004 and is by Libero H who won the World Cup finals in 1994; Van Gogh was 2005 KWPN Ability Test Champion and in the last 6 years, no other KWPN stallion has received as many points as Van Gogh at his performance test; Vincenzo was KWPN Stallion Champion 2005 and has been one of the most successful KWPN stallions with victories in several national and international stallion competitions including Young Stallion 2008 at the Zwolle International Stallion Show and the 2008 Youngster Tour Final at the CSIO**** in Linz, Austria; L’Esprit was KWPN Stallion Champion 2006 and the sensation at the 2006 KWPN stallion approval; and Solitaire, an all round top jumping talent by the legendary Voltaire (Dutch based) with super movements and very appealing conformation.

With a new generation at the helm, Longspring has an interesting future!
