We will feature regular updates with what is happening with the stud. It is winter here in New Zealand so activities are focused on repairs and maintenance and selling up and coming young horses.  Eventing has just finished and winter racing is well underway.

Distelfink influence in Forest Gate Trophy

In 1997, Distelfink was ranked 3rd in the world as a sire of event horses by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses due primarily to the international success of his top eventers GV Braveheart (Olivia Bunn, Australia) and NRM Denver (Catriona Williams). 

His influence as a grand sire is showing up in recent results for eventing in NZ at top level where two grandsons placed 1st and 3rd at the CIC*** in Richfields, New Zealand.

Sterling Prince continues spring success

The spring success for Sterling Prince struck gold over the weekend with a win in the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) Group 3 race at Flemington. One of only two kiwi bred, kiwi owned and kiwi trained to have success at the carnival!

Half sister to 1995 Aust Horse of the Year JEUNE produces Colombia colt 

Saveur, the 22 year old mare by Ardross has produced an outstanding colt by Colombia this spring. He was born at Longspring Stud at 12:40 am on the Sunday (Oct 4) after the Kelt Capital Stakes in HB in a beautiful evening with a fullish moon and a warm night. Just as well because by Sunday evening the winter weather was back with a vengeance. Snow, rain and a bitterly cold wind.

The NZ Thoroughbred Stallion Register only records progeny winnings in dollar value for NZ and Australia – but when one digs a bit deeper looking at the tremendously successful Colombia progeny racing in Hong Kong and Macau, the winnings are much more impressive! This is from 4 crops racing.

Bringbackthebiff jumping in Ireland

It is like selling coals to Newcastle … but an Irish owner purchased one of the more successful of the Colombia progeny in Bringbackthebiff (Colombia – Ellena Dawn by Drums of Time) who is now racing in Ireland. He is particularly successful at steeplechasing winning the Gowran Inistioge Beginners Chase within 5 months of his arrival in Ireland. Bringbackthebiff was 2nd in the New Zealand Cup in 2007.

One of the more exciting news items is that Syenz Equine Reproduction in conjunction with Longspring have formed an association with top Dutch Warmblood stud Wimselbach in the Netherlands near the German border to import semen from their jumping stallions.
